Support
Email jarekhardy@gmail.com. Say which server type (Mac or Linux) and what you see, and a screenshot helps.
What you need
- Herdr on a Mac or Linux server.
- SSH access to it. On a Mac, turn on System Settings › General › Sharing › Remote Login.
- To use it away from home, Tailscale (or another VPN) on your server and your device.
Setting up
Open Wrangle and tap Set Up a Server. It shows a command to run once on your server, which lets your device sign in with its own key, then checks the connection step by step. To look around first, tap Try the Demo.
Common problems
"The server didn't accept this iPhone's key"
Check the username first: it must be your account on that server. If it's right, run the command from the setup step on that server, signed in as that user.
"Couldn't reach the server"
Check the address and that the server is on. With a Tailscale name, make sure Tailscale is on, on your device too.
"Herdr isn't running"
Tap Start Herdr in Wrangle, or run herdr on the server.
No alerts
- Long-press the server in Wrangle and tap Turn On Alerts again. It reinstalls the helper and registers your device.
- Check notifications are on: Settings › Apps › Wrangle › Notifications.
- On the server, check the helper is running:
systemctl --user status wrangle-notifyon Linux, or~/Library/Logs/wrangle-notify.logon a Mac.
Removing the alert helper
On Linux:
systemctl --user disable --now wrangle-notify rm -f ~/.config/systemd/user/wrangle-notify.service ~/.local/bin/wrangle-notify rm -rf ~/.config/wrangle-notify
On a Mac:
launchctl bootout gui/$(id -u) ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.futurefuture.wrangle-notify.plist rm -f ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.futurefuture.wrangle-notify.plist ~/.local/bin/wrangle-notify rm -rf ~/.config/wrangle-notify
